Artemide – lighting from generations to generations

The name Artemide has been synonymous with high-quality lighting since 1960. Following the motto "The Human Light" ”, the Italian manufacturer developed lights and lighting systems that are tailored to people’s needs. Over the course of the following 60 years of the company’s history, design classics were created that still set standards in terms of lighting quality and function today.

The most renowned designs from Artemide include the Tolomeo desk lamp by Michele De Lucchi, its predecessor Tizio by Richard Sapper, and the innovative Demetra LED light by Naoto Fukasawa.

At the same time, Ernesto Gismondi’s company has exerted a decisive influence over advancements in the design world. From Pop Art to Memphis Design, from functionalism to minimalism – Artemide always has its finger on the pulse of the time.

The legendary Tolomeo range by Michele de Lucchi is a significant part of the Artemide company history. Initially known only to architects and designers, it is now one of the most popular desk lamps available. Given its practical adjustability and clever joint mechanism, this status comes as no surprise. The lamp can be positioned exactly and flexibly, illuminating any area chosen. The design of this lamp is superior that of traditional “architect lamps”. Its high-quality spring balancer mechanism is concealed inside a slim housing, with only its pulley system left visible. As such, this Artemide classic has become a timeless eye-catcher, deserving of a place on every desk.

The Tolomeo family now contains not only desk lamp, but also individually adjustable reading lamps, pendant lights for dining tables and much more.

This visually impressive light developed its extraordinary presence thanks to several discs, reminiscent of the rings of Saturn, which fall gently down. For this design, which is as individual as it is sophisticated, the Pirce family has won many prestigious awards. The body of the Artemide Pirce is actually cut from a single aluminium disc.
